A literature survey indicated that methods based on x-ray absorption and ultrasonic and AF transmissions are the most promising nondestructive techniques for determining the integrity of the glue bond in laminated-wood structures. In the preliminary experiments, glue-line defects were detected by x-ray absorption methods, but areas containing adequate adhesive could not be detected in which no bonding occurred. Ultrasonic transmission values were inconsistent and did not definately locate void and unbounded areas.
