An investigation was made of the most general 3-dimensional flow field possible under a uniform state of stress at the yield limit. Two cases are distinguished 1 the regular case in which all the principal components of the stress deviation are different from zero and 2 the degenerate case in which some of these components are zero. In the first case the velocity field involves an arbitrary constant, but no arbitrary functions. In the degenerate case 2 arbitrary functions are involved.
