An experimental investigation was conducted to determine the X- band 3 cm front-to-back power-ratio characteristics of a horn receiving antenna mounted in the nose of a 5-in.38-cal projectile. Optimizing variable parameters associated with the front-case internal configuration and the antenna structure and position increased the front-to-back ratios to values greater than 54 db. However, fluctuations with respect to illumination angle the angle between the longitudinal axis of the projectile and the line of sight were believed to preclude a great practical utilization of the increased front-to-back ratio.
