Abstract : This is a final report for year two (FY 96) of a comprehensive epidemiologic research study of a large population of military women assigned to Naval ships. This multi-year project was conducted under the Congressionally established Defense Women's Health Research Program (DWHRP). The objectives of this study included descriptions of the health status, health care utilization patterns, health care needs, reproductive characteristics, birth control availability and pregnancy-related issues, psychological characteristics, perceived stress, and self-reported occupational and environmental exposures of women assigned aboard U.S. Navy ships and a comparison group of men aboard the same ships. This project utilized four primary data collection methods: (1) a questionnaire administered aboard ship for ships newly enrolled in the study during year two, (2) a follow-up questionnaire administered by mail to each individual who was surveyed during year one and who is still on active duty, (3) ascertainment of sick call visits aboard ship, and (4) structured discussions with medical department staff. Appendices A, B, and C can be found in this volume. Appendix D is found in Volume 2.
