Abstract : We demonstrate the world's first composite fiber laser of holmium-core and thulium-doped cladding. The composite fiber was optically pumped by an 803-nm fiber coupled diode source and was demonstrated to emit at 2020 nm with 29% slope efficiency and at 2070 nm at 4% optical-to-optical with a peak power of 1.5 W.
