Abstract : Pulsed laser heating (PLH) has been shown to be a convenient method to reproduce the transient heating and thermomechanical effects that occur at the bore of large and medium caliber guns during firing. Hence, PLH has been used not only to gain insight into the erosion mechanisms that take place during firing, but to evaluate potential candidate bore materials and coatings
