Abstract : Developed novel multi-nesting, time splitting and implicit relaxation techniques for coupled three-dimensional mesoscale/microscale ionospheric dynamics; resolved secondary Rayleigh-Taylor instabilities and characterized turbulent dynamics of plasma bubbles/ionospheric layers. Created methods based on Lagrangian coherent structures delineating formation of scintillation producing irregularities, discovered fine scale irregularity patterns/plasma pancakes in ionospheric flows; described non-Gaussian spatially varying statistics and characterized patchy inhomogeneous dynamics of ionospheric density layers. Physics based predictive modeling and simulations of coupled neutral-plasma interactions (ions, electrons and neutral winds) enable forecasting of mesoscale/micro-scale dynamics for a range of altitudes that encompass the ionospheric E and F layers.
