Abstract : To remain the force of choice against future threats, the Marine Corps must increase its irregular warfare capabilities. Key to this is developing a group of foreign security force advisors who can provide persistent engagement in trouble areas to prevent future conflicts. Currently the Marine Corps builds advisor teams in an ad hoc manner, paying little attention to the unique skills required for advisory duty. To prepare Marine foreign security force advisors the Marine Corps must apply lessons learned from the past and develop the means to implement policy and doctrine to help other nations fight future threats.
