Abstract : Magnesium alloys are of interest due to their potential for significant light-weighting in both vehicle and personnel related applications. In this report, a relatively new alloy obtained from Japan was evaluated for its mechanical and electromechanical properties. Although the alloy displayed promising mechanical properties, the corrosion resistance of the alloy was found to fall well below that of other magnesium alloys recently evaluated at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory/Weapons and Materials Research Directorate (ARL/WMRD).
