Abstract : This paper examines Army Leader development doctrine, guidance, and foci-seeking emphasis upon the Social and Family components of Comprehensive Soldier and Family Fitness (CSF2) of senior leaders in the Operational Army. It explores a recent focus by Army leadership on the relationship between leader development and the strategic reset toward the Army 2020. The analysis also addresses the efficacy of concentrating leader development efforts within Operational formations, paradigm shifts in the culture and philosophy of leader development, as well as challenges to strengthening senior leaders' Family and Social capabilities. Finally, it assesses the attitudes, assumptions, and benefits of senior leader development in the Family and Social aptitudes.
