Abstract : The objective of this project is to analyze data from the Southern Philippines Public Perception Survey (SPPPS) collected under the auspices of the Joint Special Operations Task Force -- Philippines (JSOTF-P) and provide key and relevant insights to the sponsor. The team applied factor analysis in order to infer latent variables, those variables not directly observable via individual survey questions, that provide key insights into the phenomenon of interest and to reduce the dimensionality of the survey data. Regression models fit to the survey data, using the factors as both the dependent and independent variables, indicate how particular dependent variables are associated with various sets of independent variables. Dependent variables of interest include those quantifying respondents' trust in extremist groups and the insurgency.
