Abstract : The project dealt with various threats in wireless networks, including: eavesdropping in a broadcast channel, non-cooperative eavesdropping in a single-source single-sink planar network, and primary user emulation attack in a cognitive radio network. The major contributions were: detailed analysis of performance trade-off in the presence of the eavesdropping threat; a combined encoding and routing approach that provides provable security against non-cooperating eavesdropping; and a physical layer approach to counter the primary emulation attack. The research results under this effort significantly advanced our understanding on some of the fundamental trade-offs among various performance metrics in a wireless system. Practically feasible wireless security measures were also obtained that could lead to more assured operations in which secured wireless networks play an indispensable role. This project led to one PhD dissertation, one pending patent application, two archival journal papers and a number of peer-reviewed conference papers.
