Abstract : This technical report documents the framework of a three-dimensional Atmospheric Boundary Layer Environment (ABLE) model. The objective of the project is to develop a microscale boundary layer meteorological model to fill the gap in Army applications. A set of incompressible equations for momentum, energy, and scalar is chosen specifically for the microscale meteorological modeling. A Cartesian coordinate with a structured grid is selected for a fast computation and domain preprocessing. A finite volume numerical method with a collocated grid is applied in this framework. Some planned features for this model system, such as turbulence model for sub-grid scale and the immersed boundary method, are also described briefly. Bench mark test cases compared with the laboratory data and with other numerical simulations are also performed and documented.
