Abstract : The Army is tasked with managing the cultural resources on its lands. For installations such as Fort Leonard Wood that contain large numbers of historic farmsteads, meeting these requirements through traditional approaches entails large investments of time, personnel, and capital. Fort Leonard Wood and the Construction Engineering Research Laboratory have developed a model for efficiently identifying the best examples of historic sites, and also those sites that are least likely to be deemed eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. This report details the application of the data collection and analysis process developed by Enscore et al. (2005) to eight historic sites on Fort Leonard Wood Military Reservation. The results of the fieldwork show that this approach helps to quickly identify basic information about the site and provide a basis for identifying sites that have little potential for listing on the National Register. Recommendations also are offered concerning the development of the model and its application at other installations.
