Abstract : The project included a review of the Direct Digital Manufacturing industry, which included additive, subtractive, and hybrid manufacturing. The review also included reverse engineering, part information data storage, diagnostics, and CAD/CAM technologies. There was a significant amount of information gained on all of the above technologies. The key area of development for this industry is advancing additive manufacturing technology. This area of the Direct Digital Manufacturing industry provides the most promise on direct part fabrication but also requires additional development in materials qualification, machine to machine consistency, inline processing monitoring, increased deposition rates, and improve part surface finish.
