Abstract : The purpose of this report is to research and develop alternative uses for commercially viable heavy lift ships to employ as modular casualty receiving ships (MCRS). The concept revolves around a standard field hospital (FH) constructed or floated onto the deck of a commercially viable heavy lift ship for rapid deployment. Doing so eliminates the need for the U.S. Navy to construct or purchase a heavy lift ship, but rather lease any commercially viable heavy lift ship for a relatively short period of time. This concept is adaptable to any commercial heavy lift vessel configuration, and the feasibility of the proposed design will be shown through 3-D computer aided design software as well as space and weight analyses focusing on three different commercial heavy lift vessels.
