Abstract : Five high strength steels (4340, 300M, AerMet 100, Ferrium S53, and Hy-Tuf) and four stainless steels (High Nitrogen, 13-8Mo, Custom 465, and MLX17) have been evaluated with respect to their characteristics and applicability to the current and future Navy aircraft. In this endeavor, their metallurgical feature, mechanical property, fatigue behavior, and corrosion resistance have been investigated and compared.
