Abstract : Change orders are used by project managers of construction projects to account for unplanned for events. This may include everything from weather events to last minute changes requested by the user. This effort analyzes data from the U.S. Air Force military construction program to find the major causes of change orders. The data is also analyzed to find trends over time, by construction agent, and by major command to detect possible trends. Design deficiencies are found to be the most common cause of change orders however; the data from the military database is insufficient to determine a conclusive statistical ranking. Evidence is discovered to suggest one major command may have a higher cost per change order than the others, but it is not conclusive.
