Abstract : Emergency preparedness and disaster response requires collaboration, training, personnel, equipment, supplies and large amounts of finding. Disaster response strains not only the emergency departments of hospitals, but also the ancillary and support services that are vital to providing patient care. Hospitals are burdened with using patient revenues to fund preparedness and at a time of great competition, prospective payment and less government reimbursement, hospitals need an avenue to find emergency preparedness. The purpose of this paper is to explore how these services are affected by emergency preparedness and disaster response and provide policy alternatives to finding emergency preparedness.
