Abstract : The primary objective of the H-RTExpress effort is to provide enabling technology and domain specific tools that will quickly and effectively move systems targeted for heterogeneous architectures containing adaptive and embedded computing nodes from concept to implementation. The approach to accomplishing this objective is to build an integrated graphical development environment that will provide the capability to allow direct mapping and execution of sequential MATLAB code into heterogeneous embedded parallel computing systems containing both embedded processing and adaptive computing nodes comprised of field programmable gate array (FPGA) technology. The benefit of such an approach is that it provides an easy to use software development environment that significantly reduces the software development cost associated with building applications for these heterogeneous hardware systems. H-RTExpress allows the user to develop their application in a high level language (MATLAB) and frees the user from having to worry about data distribution and communication, since the tool automatically handles these details for the user. The H- RTExpress development environment leverages existing technology developed under previous DARPA/ITO funding as well as ISI commercial product technology RTExpress and Annapolis Microsystems COREFIRE.
