Abstract : The art of developing functionalized nanostructured materials exploiting unusual interfacial properties has not only produced new hitherto unknown man-made materials but almost seem to lead to the world of self assembled systems' - a step closer to mimicking nature! Exploitation of the size-related properties of nanostructured materials, like transparency of opaque ceramics, superplasticity, enhanced mechanical properties, and complex tailored multilayer systems have produced value added components of promise like the GMR heads, unusual soft and hard magnetics, quantum dots, catalysts, and unusually hard material tools etc to name a few.
