Abstract : This is a preliminary study of the economic benefits that accrue to the United States as a result of deploying military forces in East Asia and the Pacific. The study identifies five types of potential benefits and presents a methodology by which the value of those benefits could be assessed. Examples are presented to suggest the plausibility of each type of benefit.
