Abstract : Research on the beam breakup (BBU) instability has been performed on the following tasks during the past year: (1) Cold-test and circuit-model analysis to evaluate coupled cavity BBU experimental results, (2) Demonstration of scaling of BBU growth in a new 19 cavity system that doubles the propagation distance to about two meters, (3) Novel theoretical analysis of BBU growth in a high current annular electron beam, and 4) Theoretical studies of BBU control by gas focusing.
