Abstract : Paint stripping and repainting of aircraft surfaces are required periodically during the operating lifetime of an aircraft. Historically, paint removal has been achieved with chemical strippers. These materials often contain toxic components and create hazardous working conditions. It is necessary to ensure that alternate paint removal techniques are available that can be performed in a cost effective, environmentally safe manner without causing damage to aircraft surfaces.
