Abstract : An analytical model has been developed for the performance of a double inlet pulse tube cryocooler employing a stepped piston compressor. Numerical results are presented as a function of the area ratio of the stepped piston. The double inlet pulse tube cryocooler is shown to have more refrigeration power than the corresponding single inlet device. However, the increased refrigeration power is achieved at the cost of reduced thermal efficiency.
