Abstract : This report describes a simulation model used for calculating the electronic noise from the combination of an amplifier and a capacitive sensor such as a sonar hydrophone. Two cases are examined: a non-inverting amplifier with high input impedance and an inverting amplifier with low input impedance. The inverting amplifier is sometimes referred to as a charge amplifier since it uses capacitive feedback in conjunction with the capacitive source to establish voltage gain. The significant noise sources used in the model are the same for the inverting and non-inverting cases. These noise sources include thermal noise from the hydrophone, thermal noise from resistors, and voltage and current noise from the amplifier
