Abstract : In an era of increased competition for scarce resources and in the face of mandated downsizing of the force structure, the number and type of Army National Guard units, the amount, and the type of training will be determined, to a great extent, on the contribution of the Army National Guard as perceived by the Active Army. 'Perceptions of the Army National Guard held by the Active Army, were obtained by surveying resident students of the Army War College, class of 1992. Attitudes concerning the Army National Guard's ability to mobilize, deploy, and effectively participate in an armed conflict, both as individual Guardsman and as units was surveyed from several perspectives. In addition, recommendations to improve the 'One Army' concept; expectations the Active Army has of the Army National Guard; and what the Army National Guard can expect from the Active Army were solicited.
