Abstract : Recently considerable attention has been given to the lack of biomedical research on women's health problems. Within the military services, this concern for lack of research with women or lack of inclusion of women subjects in research has been extended to most areas of human performance investigation. As women move into an increasing number of military occupations, it is apparent most military research on health and performance has been conducted on male research volunteers. The many anthropometric, body compositional, physiological and endocrinological differences between genders make it obvious that much of the male research data can not be readily extrapolated to females. Although this issue has only recently received broad attention, the US Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM) has already executed many studies which either addresses women-related issues or include women in the study population. This report is a bibliography of these studies, complete with abstracts, intended to serve as a convenient resource for women-related health and performance research information. It is anticipated that these references will prompt additional biomedical research related to women in the military
