Abstract : An ongoing research project on estimating software quality from Ada designs is discussed. The research is motivated by the need for technology to analyze designs, when they are first represented, for their likely effect on quality factors. The objective of this research is to build multivariate models relating design characteristics and environmental factors to reliability and maintainability. Early results of the research are discussed, including alternative definitions of reliability and maintainability, a representation of Ada design structure, characteristics of software project data used for analysis, and preliminary statistical results testing hypotheses concerning the effects of design structure on reliability and maintainability....
