Abstract : This report contains the results of a two-year Manufacturing Methods and Technology project that addresses the machinability of titanium beta-C material. Because of the lack of machining data, the machinability evaluation was performed both in-house and by an independent laboratory. Testing was done mostly on hollow cylinders and included operations such as milling, turning, deep-hole boring, and bore finishing. A substantial database was developed and can be used to optimize the manufacture of titanium alloy components and to establish manufacturing costs....
