Abstract : An integral equation approach based on the mixed-potential formulation is developed for the analysis of radiation, scattering and guidance of electromagnetic waves by arbitrarily shaped conducting objects in layered uniaxial media. This method is successfully applied to rigorously analyze coax- and waveguide-fed microstrip patch antennas of various shapes, as well as multiconductor transmission lines with conductors of various cross-section profiles, embedded in multilayered media. With the approach developed here, microstrip structures of various, possibly irregular shapes, embedded in multilayered isotropic or uniaxial substrates, may be investigated within one theoretical framework and using the same computer program.
