Abstract : The project was carried out in response to the increasing incidence of eye injuries, particularly of the retina and choroid, as a result of accidental and other exposures to medium to high energy lasers in the military environment. This research was directed at developing techniques of surgical intervention in an attempt to prevent visual loss which might occur secondary to subretinal and vitreous hemorrhage following exposure to laser energy. The technical objectives of the research were: (1) Creation of subretinal hemorrhages in the cat model of human laser eye injuries. (2) Comparison of the histopathology of laser injury in the cat and determination of the time interval post-laser injury for optimal surgical intervention....
