Abstract : In order to provide a more accurate description of the state of the propelling gas in electrothermal-chemical (ETC) gun simulations, the equilibrium thermochemical code BLAKE has been directly linked to a lumped parameter interior ballistics (IB) model and an inverse model. The inverse model utilizes experimental measurements of pressure, projectile position, and electrical energy input to infer the mass of propellant consumed at a timestep. In the linked models, computed value of the space-mean pressure is supplied directly to the codes, obviating the need for impetus and the ratio of specific heats in the calculation of energy. The linked thermochemistry-IB models are discussed and applied to experimental ETC data.
