Abstract : Two forecast techniques were developed based on trend extrapolation of storm boundary represented by a fixed level contour) attributes. The two techniques differ in the selection of attributes upon which the forecast is based. The first technique performs an extrapolation of spatial characteristics of the system in order to predict position and shape. The second technique treats the storm boundary coordinates as periodic functions represented through Fourier transformation as a series of phase and amplitude coefficients. The magnitude of the coefficients, along with some physical constraints such as area or aspect ratio, are extrapolated to produce the forecast. The accuracy of the two techniques is currently under evaluation and results will be presented in a separate report....
