Abstract : The Rome Laboratory is the Air Force's center of expertise for advancing the state-of-the-art in command, control, communications, and intelligence. This mission is accomplished by: (1) Conducting vigorous research, development, and test programs in all applicable technologies; (2) Transitioning technology to current and future Air Force systems to improve operational capability, readiness, and supportability; (3) Providing a full range of technical support to AFSC product divisions and other Air Force organizations; and (4) Conducting selected acquisition programs for low volume, limited quantity intelligence and software systems. The Laboratory maintains leading edge technological expertise in the following areas: surveillance, communications, command and control, intelligence, reliability science, electromagnetic technology, photonics, signal processing, and computational science. The Laboratory is organized into four major staff directorates and four mission directorates: Surveillance and Photonics, Command Control and Communications, Intelligence and Reconnaissance and Electromagnetics and Reliability. We recognize that a system approach, integrating efforts across the Laboratory's organizational structure, is required to develop effective C3I systems.
