Abstract : A recent review paper, to appear in the journal Advances in Atmospheric Sciences, summarizes the work completed under this grant. A copy of this review is enclosed as an appendix to the report. The approach we have followed is to first make a very high resolution model forecast of a recurving typhoon. Given a good forecast on the medium range with a comprehensive physical-dynamical model we next proceeded to evaluate residue-free budgets of vorticity and divergence following the model's output history. The residue-free budgets follow the model equations and thus carry a lot of useful information on the recurvature dynamics. Specifically, we have evaluated the residue-free budgets of vorticity and divergence for a 6 day period.
