Abstract : Fibrillation of the particulate phase has been widely observed in ER fluids and has been suggested as a viable mechanism for the ER phenomena. In this work, the author has investigated the roles of particulate properties such as size and shape anisotropy, dielectric constant and dielectric anistropy and conductivity in the structural mechanism of ER fluids.
