Abstract : A description is given of the design, construction, and operation of an apparatus for the coating of ceramic monofilaments using chemical vapor deposition. Coated filaments are desired in order to investigate issues pertaining to the processing and mechanical properties of ceramic matrix composites. Specific examples are given of processes and results of coating experiments for several different materials including metals and ceramics.
