Abstract : The Navy Clothing and Textile Research Facility (NCTRF) has developed a 55/45 polyester/wool, 11-oz/linear yard serge for use in Men's and Women's Service Dress Blue uniforms. Over 100 commercially available potential candidate Fabrics were screened prior to the selection of 10 materials for wear-testing. Data gathered from this evaluation resulted in the development of three prototype fabrics. The fabrics consisted of two 55/45 polyester/wool, 11-oz serges of the same construction but manufactured by different sources. The third fabric was a 75/25 polyester/wool, 12-oz serge. Results of the laboratory evaluation and subsequent extended wear-testing of these materials indicated the 55/45 blend to be superior to the 75/25 blend.
