Abstract : Automated data processing for non-tactical applications afloat was first implemented on large platforms with the SNAP I system. This system provided excellent inventory management, financial and accounting service in the punch card and magnetic tape environment in which it was introduced. Subsequent modifications have been made to take advantage of changing technologies and increased user expectations. Automated data processing on smaller platforms was implemented with the SNAP II program. While serving many of the same functions this implementation was designed separately and for a different user group. The SMMS program discussed here in a case format was an attempt to consolidate and enhance the two SNAP programs.
