Abstract : This report discusses the design, fabrication and test of an optical RS Flip-Flop as an integrated optical memory element. The Flip-Flop has three GaAs-AlGaAs heterostructure lasers with total internal reflection mirrors. A main laser incorporates a saturable absorber to develop the bistable output characteristics. A pump laser bleaches the absorber to set the logic 1 state. A third laser quenches the main laser to reset the device to logic 0. Experiments and data for the laser quenching and bistability are presented.
