Abstract : This technical report documents the software package CRRESRAD developed by the Phillips Laboratory. CRRESRAD is a utility that predicts satellite dose accumulation behind different thicknesses of aluminum hemispheres for specified orbits. Dose accumulation is predicted by using empirical dose rate models created using data measured on the Combined Release and Radiation Effects Satellite (CRRES) which flew in a geosynchronous transfer orbit for 14 months during solar maximum. The dose models give dose rates for quiet, average, and active conditions during solar maximum which can be used to give best and worst case dose rates. CRRESRAD is best applied to orbits with inclinations less than 30 deg. It is useful for higher inclination orbits if the user is primarily interested in dose caused by protons or dose accumulated behind thick shielding ( 200 mils aluminum).
