Abstract : Differential scanning calorimetry was conducted using centrifugally cast monolithic A356 aluminum material and 26 volume percent silicon carbide (SiC) particle reinforced A356 aluminum matrix composite material in as-cast, cast and rolled, and cast and extruded conditions. Electrical resistivity and matrix micro-hardness measurements during isothermal aging treatments were also conducted. the effects of thermomechanical processing and SiC particle additions on the mechanical properties and aging kinetics of the metastable phases in each material were studied.
