Abstract : The MK 15 Mod 0 (MK 15) Underwater Breathing Apparatus (UBA) is a closed-circuit rebreather that recirculates the diver's respiratory gas, removing carbon dioxide from the breathing gas and adding oxygen when needed. Replacement valve assemblies for the full face mask were procured, and, because of material and design changes, destructive and nondestructive testing were performed to satisfy certification requirements prior to issuance to fleet users. The strength of the adhesive used in the assemblies was found by compressing the assembly until the adhesive failed. The adhesive strength was more than adequate for the intended use of the valve assemblies; saltwater soaks had no effect on adhesive strength. Remaining valve assemblies were then pressurized to three times the maximum in-use operating pressure. All assemblies remained intact.
