Abstract : We introduce a series of reports that attempt to resolve the conflict between the desire to build a thinking machine and the claimed impossibility of discussing the general design in rational language. We present the basic structure of our investigation and its position in current controversy without supporting argument. We look at nonliving intelligence and the biological brain through a smoky glass and see--electronic circuitry. This is the electronic age. We approach the design of a machine brain as a problem in reverse engineering. Artificial Intelligence, Nonliving Intelligence, Machine Intelligence, Thinking Machine, Intelligence.
