Abstract : This study examined four physical properties of three commercially available gypsum materials and three fabricated hybrids under five different model finishing conditions. In addition, a novel means of quantifying the time required to trim the models was presented. The study showed that the physical properties of the different materials react in a variable fashion depending upon the model finishing conditions. Non-commercially available hybrids had superior properties over orthodontic plaster in some conditions, but not all. Model trimming times were directly related to the density of the material, but an item of interest was the time benefits that could be achieved through the use of an improved trimming wheel recently placed on the market.
