Abstract : Accurate schedule estimation in software development programs is important because schedule is a major determinant of cost. Further, as a greater percentage of weapon system cost is taken by software, there is a greater need for knowledge in this area. In order to verify the accuracy of schedule prediction for software development obtainable today, this effort examined five commercially available software cost/schedule estimators. The estimated results were analyzed for their accuracy in predicting the actual schedules experienced on the projects. The models analyzed were REVIC, PRICE-S, System-4, SPQR/20, and SEER.
