Abstract : The principal investigator produced five published papers during the period of support. The work centered on questions of Fourier/wavelet analysis. This is an area which promises to have a major impact on signal processing and numerical analysis and requires careful theoretical underpinning. Dr. Madych has resolved several questions related to translation invariance, multiscale analysis and Radon transforms. Contents: 1) Translation invariant multiscale analysis; 2) Polyharmonic Splines, Multiscale Analysis, and Entire Functions; 3) Summability and Approximate Reconstruction from Radon Transform Data; 4) Bounds on Multivariate Polynomials and Exponential Error Estimates for Multiquadric Interpolation; 5) Error Estimates for Interpolation by Generalized Splines.
