Abstract : There are many situations (for example, wartime and the introduction of a new product into the market) where the transient behavior of a multi-echelon inventory system is of paramount importance and in these situations, steady state models may be inadequate both in describing the relevant transient behavior of the system and in determining the least cost mix, quantity, and distribution of spares that meet specified performance objectives. This report develops a model and methodology for determing cost effective inventory policies for a two-echelon non-stationary one-for-one inventory system for reparable items.
