Abstract : This paper describes simplified mathematical models of the Space Transportation System (STS), Reaction Control Systems (RCS), and Digital Autopilot (DAP), used in the USAFA Proximity Operations Simulator for the VAX 11/780 and the Evans and Sutherland PS 300 computers. Included in the modeling are propellant expenditures for translational maneuvers, rotational maneuvers, and attitude maintenance and on-orbit trajectory deviations induced by RCS cross coupling. This simulator serves as a learning aid for cadets studying orbital dynamics and STS mission planning and as a research platform for the Department of Astronautics.
